Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Gamesplanet E3 2018 Preview

Ubisoft invited Gamesplanet to take a look at their open world action game Assassin's Creed Odyssey by trying out the demo at their E3 2018 booth.

Last week we finally got the reveal that we've been waiting for as Assassin's Creed Odyssey was revealed to the world and launches later this year on October 5th. Gamesplanet was lucky enough to get hands on with the game during our trip to E3 2018 thanks to our friends at Ubisoft who gave us a tour of the game and a glimpse at what's new in this version of Assassins Creed.

This time the action takes place in Greece, set 400 years prior to the events of Assassin's Creed Origins. Players can expect a map twice the size of Origins with plenty of locations to explore including snowy areas, large oceans and popular locations from that Era.

The game will allow you pick from either Alexios or Kassandra as you embark on your journey through Ancient Greece, coming face to face with various characters from history. You'll also have choices to make as you progress in the story with brand new dialogue options - a first for the franchise.

Also new to the series are large 150 v 150 battles that pit two teams against one another in conquest mode. For this type of combat it could be compared to Ubisoft's FOR HONOR which saw teams of Vikings, Knights and Samurai at War. In Odyssey the battles are fought between Spartans and Athens going all out for glory, some battles will be story related and others will be optional. During fights, some tougher foes may join the battle and will need to be taken out quickly or the enemy team may gain an advantage.

The RPG Skill system from Origins returns too, but this time it's been expanded a little more to give even more control over the types of skills you can have with tiers of upgrades allowing the player to pick their playstyle.

Finally players can expect to see large naval and ship to ship combat return from previous entries in the series with a greater focus on large sea battles, something that we've not seen since Assassin's Creed Black Flag. While Origins did have some ship combat it was toned down a bit, though with the next entry we should see even more boat action.
