Gamesplanet Review Round Up: HITMAN 2

The deadly assassin Agent 47 returns in the action sequel HITMAN 2 on November 13th. While you wait take a look at what critics are saying about the latest entry in the series with our review round up.

Taking aim.

It's been 2 years since we got the fantastic HITMAN reboot from developer iO Interactive, and next week Agent 47 returns in the action sequel HITMAN 2 which launches on November 13th. Like it's predecessor, HITMAN 2 gives players the opportunity to explore large sandbox levels that are filled with ways to eliminate targets and the game encourages you to pursue multiple playstyles thanks to replayability. In the 2016 HITMAN the game was delivered as an episodic release with new Episodes being released over the course of time, but with HITMAN 2 you'll have all the Episodes at once (with possibly more to come later). Even more satisfying are the levels from the original game making an appearance thanks to the Legacy Pack which will be free to owners of HITMAN.

Agent 47 will travel to Columbia, Monaco and more in a globe trotting adventure that requires him to hunt down specific targets (including Sean Bean - who makes a guest appearance). Freedom to tackle missions in various ways will unlock new items, starting points and other gameplay perks depending on how you complete the levels. HITMAN 2 also adds the Sniper Assassin Mode which can allow players to compete against players around the globe with a series of challenges, and each one can be customised to give a greater level of difficulty. You can also enjoy the new Ghost Multiplayer Mode that sees 2 players compete in real time to see who is the best assassin. Though unlike multiplayer modes from other games you will not be able to interact with the other player.

While HITMAN 2 doesn't reinvent the wheel, it adds more of what the original 2016 release had and that's not a bad thing. New gadgets are definitely lacking, but having all the levels at launch instead of delivered over time is much more enjoyable and will provide plenty of content for players to dive into. There are also 2 planned paid expansions coming to HITMAN 2 post-launch and they will add new locations, missions, outfits, weapons and more.

Let's dive into the critic scores to see how the HITMAN 2 is doing among the gaming sites! Open Critic currently lists the game at a Strong 83 rating, based on 21 scored reviews.

The perfect disguise.

Critics on HITMAN 2

"Hitman 2 introduces a wealth of meaningful new toys and systems, generously reshapes the first season with them, and then throws in a couple of sturdy multiplayer modes to boot."
Ben Maxwell, PCGamesN (8/10)

"Fantastic new level designs, minor but meaningful additions, and some excellent bonuses help strengthen the endurance of the Hitman series."
Edmond Tran, Gamespot (8/10)

"Essentially more of its predecessor but with a more consistent quality of levels. Which is fine: its predecessor was great."
Phil Savage, PC Gamer (84/100)

"Hitman 2 is like a hearty stew: not pretty, but so full of nutrition that you're bound to walk away full and happy."
Ryan McCaffrey, IGN (7.7/10)
