Loot boxes in WWE 2K18 will not feature microtransactions

2K games says no to microtransactions for their upcoming wrestling title WWE 2K18, allows players to unlock items using the in-game currency instead.

One title continues to prove it's dominance in the wrestling genre and WWE 2K18 is coming on October 17th to consoles and also making an early appearance on PC the same day. As we see a rise on the microtransaction craze, some developers prefer to cash in selling loot boxes - but 2k are not going that route and will instead allow players to gain rewards by playing the game, earning currency and buying loot cases without spending real money!

Loot boxes in games can sometimes be a gamble, and can be worse when said boxes require you to waste real money on them to unlock. Fortunately that won't be the case with WWE2K18 that is allowing players to get rewards by simply playing the game and using the in-game currency to get loot boxes. In WWE 2K18 there are hundreds of moves, "superstar parts" and even boosts (which are used in the Road to Glory Mode) that can be found in these boxes and allow the player to customise their fighter. At the start of the game moves and parts will be locked, but as you unlock them they can purchased with the in-game currency and use them as you see fit. On Twitter 2K also confirms that microtransactions will not be present in the game.

The 3 types of loot boxes in WWE 2K18

In the upcoming wrestling game, 2k are offering 3 types of loot boxes: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Within each one is various rewards that the player can use, with the Silver and Gold having the highest quality loot available. These can be obtained by purchasing them in the shop located in the game and all you need is currency that can be found by playing in the My PLAYER, MY CAREER, and ROAD TO GLORY modes. With the loot boxes being given out free for My Career and Road to Glory for completing various challenges.

The rewards in Loot Cases

2K lists the four types of rewards you can get from the three loot boxes on their blog:

  • SUPERSTAR PARTS – This can be any type of Superstar parts, from a set of boots to a Superstar’s tops;
  • MOVES – These are grouped into sets, and often by move type, such as a Grapple Pack or Strikes Pack;
  • VC – There is a wide range of VC that can be earned from a loot case;
  • BOOSTS – Boosts are used in ROAD TO GLORY.

Rewards will be broken into three categories: Common, Uncommon and Rare. Finding the perfect reward may take some luck, but nothing is out of reach behind a paywall.

WWE 2K18 is out on October 17th, you can pre-order the game today and get bonuses including Kurt Angle personas for free!
