Assassin's Creed Shadows: Final Major Update Adds New Story Quest and Expanded Endgame
Ubisoft has released the final major free update for Assassin's Creed Shadows, featuring the free story quest "Black Tides," the new endgame mode "Domains," and several crossover projects.
Assassin's Creed Shadows is Ubisoft's open-world action-adventure set in feudal Japan during the 16th century. Players alternate between two playable protagonists: the agile shinobi Naoe and the formidable samurai Yasuke, each with their own combat styles, abilities, and story arcs.
The latest free update not only addresses a number of remaining bugs but also introduces substantial new content. Among the additions are a brand-new story quest and an expanded endgame experience.
Black Tides: Two Templars, One Problem
The centerpiece of the update is the free story quest "Black Tides." Naoe and Yasuke have caused considerable disruption throughout Japan, prompting the Templar Order to send reinforcements. Two elite Templars known as the "Black Cross" arrive in Japan to bring the duo to justice.
As is often the case in the Assassin's Creed universe, however, the Templars have their own hidden agenda. What exactly they are searching for—and whether you'll be able to stop them—unfolds throughout the questline.
To access Black Tides, players must first complete the main story as well as the two post-launch quests "A Critical Encounter" and "A Puzzlement." Only then can players experience what Associate Game Director Simon Lemay-Comtois describes as the "true ending" for Naoe and Yasuke.
Domains: An Endgame Challenge for Build Enthusiasts
Players who aren't ready to leave AC Shadows behind after finishing the campaign can dive into the new "Domains" mode starting at level 30.
Domains consists of five Animus simulations, each featuring ten difficulty levels. The Assassin hacker MOD has created these new simulations to test both your combat skills and character build strategies. As difficulty increases, gameplay modifiers change, forcing players to constantly adapt and rethink their tactics.
Those who conquer the highest tiers will earn exclusive weapons, armor, and equipment unavailable anywhere else in the game. Each Domain challenges a different aspect of your build, giving completionists and theorycrafters plenty of new goals to pursue.
The update also introduces a new Animus Rift called "Horizon."
Crossover Content with Black Flag Resynced
And that's not all. Patch 1.1.11 also adds two new Animus projects: "Riptides" and "Undertow." Both feature themed outfits, weapons, and additional rewards.
One particularly notable feature is that completing these projects also unlocks rewards for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. Players can therefore begin earning bonuses for the upcoming Assassin's Creed remake ahead of its release.
The update is rounded out with a variety of bug fixes and balance adjustments.
