Battlefield 2042 revealed, launching October 22nd!
Since 2002, the Battlefield series has won several wars between multiplayer shooters. It all started with Battlefield 1942 and was followed by successful spin-offs such as Battlefield Vietnam (2004), Battlefield 3 (2011) and most recently the still very popular Battlefield V (2018). Today, publisher Electronic Arts and developer DICE have announced another sequel with an action-packed reveal trailer: a futuristic setting is planned for Battlefield 2042 with a release date planned for later this year on October 22nd 2021. EA has also promised us a gameplay trailer for this weekend on June 13th to get a taste of first person shooter action.
The setting of Battlefield 2042
In just ten years, the world as we know it has completely changed. In 2033, the first category 6 hurricane raged, likely thanks to the global effects of climate change. In 2034, global food and fuel shortages trigger the second world economic crisis, and by 2035, the European Union is already disintegrating following the demise of Germany.
Displaced and other crisis-torn people - families, farmers, doctors, engineers and people from all walks of life - come together to rebuild and face further threats. In Battlefield 2042, they are called No-Pats.
By 2037, humanity has almost completely rebuilt. Coastal cities have been made habitable again, fields have guaranteed yields and supply chains have been stabilised. However, 1.2 billion people could not simply be repatriated. This refers to the repatriation of people to their home countries. The first No-Pat leaders quickly emerged with the aim of splitting off larger groups of people from former nationalities and establishing a kind of "New Normality" under the identity-giving cry #WeAreNoPats. Renewed conflicts between Russia and the USA followed.
In 2040, 70% of all satellites in orbit first collided with space debris, then with the Earth. Subsequently, communication networks collapsed, power supply and supply chains came to a standstill once again. Food, oil, energy all became almost unaffordable. No internet. No navigation. No surveillance. No predictions. But extreme geopolitical mistrust. Russia and the USA blame each other for the blackout and the No-Pats are also targeted.
Former military officers and battle-hardened specialists among the No-Pats form armed task forces, in case of emergency.
The Battlefields in 2042
A shadow war escalates between the USA and Russia due to persistent food and fuel shortages. No-Pat Special Forces on behalf of both sides are deployed whenever conflicts around scarce resources become too sensitive.
Open warfare is imminent in Battlefield 2042. The No-Pats have no choice but to choose sides and fight not for a flag, but for their future. Which side will you fight for?
