Gamesplanet Review Round Up: Call of Duty: WW2

The latest entry in the popular Call of Duty series takes us back to World War II with the launch of Call of Duty: WW2. Find out how the game is doing among the critics.

Get up soldier!

Fans of the first person shooter genre won't need an introduction to the Call of Duty series as it's been a leading franchise in games for 14 years, and the most recent game Call of Duty: WWII is taking the series back to the roots of the War itself as we dive back into historical battles again. In recent years the COD titles have gone in a futuristic setting and last year we had Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare which took the franchise into space for the first time, however it was not well received and many did not enjoy the last game.

So what is Call of Duty: WWII, and more importantly how is it compared to it's predecessor? Call of Duty: WWII's Single Player puts you in the boots of Private Ronald Daniels as he fights against the German Forces trying to take over Europe. You will visit many places including the Normandy beach which was made famous all those years ago, where soldiers lost their lives trying to fight for the world. Multiplayer is back and bigger than ever, much of the systems have been redesigned and things like wallrunning that were popular n recent COD titles are gone. You'll also be able to hang out in new Social Hub Headquarters to find players to play with and brush up on your weapon skills in 1v1 fights. Lastly, it wouldn't be a COD game without Zombies and this year players are able to take on Nazi Zombies in intense PVE modes that team you up with 3 others against waves of Zombies.

To find out more about the game, you can take a look at our dedicated article on it for everything you need to know.

Let's dive into the critic scores to see how this latest COD game is doing among the gaming sites! Open Critic currently lists the game at a Strong 81 rating, based on 60 scored reviews.

Critics on Call of Duty: WW2

"Each battle is intense, and the attention to details of the imagery — like the quality of the water in a stream running through a forest — is amazing. It’s an authentic Call of Duty."
Dean Takahashi, Venture Beat (94/100)

"The experience overall though is good and, with such an enjoyable and varied multiplayer offering, everything ultimately balances out."
Leon Hurley, GamesRadar+ (4/5)

"The developers hammer home what made Call of Duty so great in previous years, while also adding a bunch of modern content and gameplay twists of their own. As far as Call of Duty games go, WW2 is an instant classic."
William Schwartz, Attack of the Fanboy (4.5/5)

"As one of the most comprehensive and filler-free Call of Dutys in recent memory, Call of Duty: WWII successfully capitalizes on the series' strengths."
Miguel Concepcion, GameSpot (9/10)

"WWII marks the first time I felt like I could get a grip on Call of Duty's multiplayer since Black Ops 2, and the most fun I've had with it since Modern Warfare. It's a familiar feeling, but a comfortable one."
James Davenport, PC Gamer (70/100)
