Crown Wars: The Black Prince revisits The Hundred Years' War
The Hundred Years' War was a conflict between the Kingdom of France and England during the Late Middle Ages, from 1337 to 1453. It was caused by the claim of King Edward III of England to the French throne, following the death of King Charles IV without a direct heir.
The war was fought in several phases, marked by famous battles such as Crécy, Poitiers, Azincourt and Castillon, and by the intervention of Joan of Arc, who restored hope to the French. It ended in victory for France, which drove the English out of its territories, with the exception of Calais. The conflict had a major impact on both kingdoms, which underwent major political, social and cultural changes.
Crown Wars: The Black Prince revisits this period from a historical perspective, but with a strong fantasy flavour. The game takes place between 1356 and 1360, mainly in France, following the capture of King John II by the Black Prince, son of King Edward of England. You take on the role of a young French lord who must restore order to the kingdom and foil the plots of the Order, a secret organisation that seeks to sow chaos and profit from the conflict.
The game blends elements of real-time strategy and turn-based tactics. It immerses players in a medieval-fantasy universe inspired by the Hundred Years' War, without being truly faithful to historical reality. It explores 14th-century France and the art of war in that period, iconic characters like Nicolas Flamel and Edward of Woodstock, as well as faithfully recreated weapons.
