The 5 best trailers of the Game Awards 2022 - with Death Stranding 2, Armored Core 6 and more!
Elden Ring won Game of the Year at this year's Game Awards - totally deserved! The many new announcements also sound promising. Here are the best trailers of the show.
On the night of December 9th 2022 (for us Europeans), not only did we get winners in several categories scope an award at The Game Awards 2022 - but also developers and publishers surprised us with excellent new announcements. Among them, for example, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2, which is not actually called Death Stranding 2, but was only shown under the working title DS2 in a first trailer.
However, the trailer still features some characters from the recommendable first part (which we are offering at a special 50% discount in the Winter Sale for a limited time), so it is somehow Death Stranding 2 after all. No release date has been set yet for the sequel starring Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Elle Fanning and other well-known actors and actresses - will Death Stranding 2 come to us in 2023? Unfortunately, the game will once again be available exclusively for PlayStation and only later for PC. Watch the trailer of DS2 here and develop strong mother/father feelings:

Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon.
The hype around Death Stranding 2 was already pretty big in the run-up, also fuelled by the numerous nebulous hints from mastermind Hideo Kojima on Twitter (which impatient fans later even got fed up with). Finally we have facts, but unfortunately no real gameplay material yet. It's a similar story with Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon from From Software (Elden Ring, Dark Souls).
Yes, that's right - the ingenious creators of Elden Ring, which was crowned Game of the Year 2022 at the Game Awards, are working on a sequel in the Armored Core series that takes us into a dystopian future with powerful battle machines. This announcement trailer also doesn't provide any gameplay scenes or an exact release date (sometime in 2023), but very atmospheric footage with unmistakable From Software vibes.
An action-packed mech shooter and MechWarrior competitor from the developers of Dark Souls? Should the previous From Software formula work in a completely different setting, or can we perhaps expect a completely different game with Armored Core 6? What do you make of the following announcement trailer?
Returnal (PC version)
Not really new, but hey - Returnal is considered one of the best action games on the PlayStation 5. And since PS games will be converted for PC at shorter intervals in the future, the PC version of Returnal will be released in early 2023. You can already be sure that the technical features will dominate those of the console original.
What can the time-loop Roguelite shooter do besides look pretty? Apparently a lot, because Returnal has a Metascore of 86 points on Metacritic. In Returnal you clean up six areas (biomes) with your firearms. If you die, it starts all over again, as is typical for Roguelite. Bosses remain dead after your victory, but otherwise Returnal punishes you mercilessly after the death of your female protagonist. Useful items such as weapons or other found sweets and character bonuses are taken away by the game as punishment and you are reset to the beginning.
You explore many rooms in the biomes, uncover secrets, find optimal routes, encounter crunchy enemies, overcome clever obstacles and lay the very bosses that at least unlock shortcuts for you. "Fast action that is addictive," writes GamePro in its review of the PS5 version. Rating: 88 points. Whew.
The Lords of the Fallen
The Lords of the Fallen from publisher CI Games and developer Hexworks is also on the show stage for the time being without a concrete release date. Please do not confuse the new The Lords of the Fallen with its predecessor from 2014. That was developed by Deck13 back then with an almost identical name - you can play it now to warm up, because the Souls-like game is by no means bad.
More promising and contemporary is the brand new The Lords of the Fallen coming in 2023. The new edition is obviously also based on the From Software design again and that should please fans of Dark Souls or Elden Ring in particular. The game world is supposed to be much larger and we also expect more complexity in the story. If Hexworks also polishes up the item and battle system, then The Lords of the Fallen can only become another hit game. Here in the trailer from the Game Awards you can see gameplay from the game for the first time. At Gamescom 2022, we were initially only able to marvel at the story trailer.
Judas
There's no way around Judas. Ghost Story Games (led by Ken Levine, director of System Shock 2, BioShock, BioShock Infinite) puts you aboard a falling-apart spaceship. As the name of the game suggests, which is also the name of the protagonist, Judas is not just about drilling bullets into enemies. Make allies into friends and - if the opportunity arises - betray them, if that ensures your survival.
There's no doubt that this looks a lot like a BioShock in the trailer from Game Awards 2022, which can certainly be seen as a positive, but Judas is considered a standalone game outside of the popular series. Immerse yourself in an extremely imaginative world, enjoy some unusual art design and reckon with some pretty weird characters.
Street Fighter 6, TEKKEN 8, Dune, Company of Heroes and more TGA highlights.
Those were them, the strongest (new) announcements of this year's Game Awards in our opinion. Of course, Street Fighter 6, TEKKEN 8 or, for example, Dune: The Awakening are missing from this list - all games that are certainly no less interesting, worse or better than those shown here. If you also want to see the other trailers of the show, we recommend the summary from IGN. Everything summarised in 9 minutes.
