Ascend to the next level when Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot comes to PC on January 17th. Get up to speed with the game in our handy recap guide while you wait!
What is Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot?
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is open world Dragon Ball RPG from CyberConnect2, who are best known for creating several Naruto titles including: NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 and more. Players will be able to experience the entire Dragon Ball Z series, from the Saiyan Saga, all the way up to the end of the Buu Saga. Play as Earth's Mightiest Hero Goku (Kakarot) and several other characters such as Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo and others as you take on deadly threats including Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu.
As with other open world RPG games, players will be able to level up their character by fighting enemies and earning experience. However battling enemies is not the only way to get experience and you can gain XP by exploring the massive open world, training, cooking to boost stats and much more. Leveling your character will allow you to unlock new moves, or power up existing ones by earning Medals and Orbs which are located throughout the world. Find ingredients in the wild and cook up a meal to give you a stat boost to help you face even more powerful threats. By spending D Medals you find within the world you'll be able to enter the training grounds, which allow the player to unlock new special moves by taking on various tasks or defeating a specific character.
There are also a number of mini games in DBZ Kakarot for you to enjoy, whether it's enjoying a spot of fishing, getting a home run with Baseball or simply learning to drive a car (based on the episode where Goku and Piccolo learn to drive). You'll also be able to help out various NPCs throughout the world with main missions or side quest, which unlocks Soul Emblems. These can be added to the various Community Boards and give new passive boosts including XP Boosts, HP Boost, Items earned in Battle boost and much more.
Everything in the game has been faithfully recreated from the anime, from the Opening Cinematic to the characters and world itself. Not only has the entire Dragon Ball Z Saga been remade, but there are also new story opportunities that were not part of the original anime. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama has even lent his help to creating a brand new character "Bonyu" who players will be able to face by playing the Training Mode (which will be given as Early Access for pre-orders).
Whether you're a Dragon Ball fan, or someone who loves anime RPG games then you're likely going to enjoy Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
