Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake — Gameplay Trailer, New Content, and Demo Date Announced
A new trailer for the upcoming Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake showcases gameplay footage. A demo has also been announced, launching on March 5, 2026.
With an overview trailer, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja provide an in-depth look at the remake of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly. The roughly two-minute video presents core gameplay mechanics, scenes from the remake, and explains what awaits you in the horror adventure.
The remake of the second entry in the series — also known as Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly — once again tells the story of twins Mio and Mayu. In an abandoned village, they confront vengeful spirits armed only with the Camera Obscura. New additions include extra storylines, fresh areas such as the Umbral Mound and the Eikado Temple Hall, as well as an alternative ending featuring the song “Utsushie” by Tsuki Amano.
Gameplay introduces special shots using different film filters, upgradeable camera abilities enhanced through prayer beads, and new dangers: some ghosts grow stronger during combat, regenerate faster, and attack more aggressively. A photo mode is also included.
The full release is scheduled for March 12, while the demo launches on Steam on March 5, 2026.
