Wild West Online MMO shows off 5 minutes of New Gameplay Footage

The Wild West comes alive with the open world MMO Wild West Online, coming to PC later this year. Developers 612 games give players a first look at gameplay footage ahead of the Alpha.

Recently it was announced that the sequel to one of the largest open world games Red Dead Redemption 2 would slip to 2018, as the developers were looking to polish the game even further. In the wake of that news, we learned that a MMO for PC (also set in the Wild West) would be coming later this year with the launch of Wild West Online. Announced back in May, this upcoming open world western will see players interact with each other and take on various missions, explore the world and much more.

Thanks to developer 612 Games we can get our first look at the gameplay for this action game. Much like other MMO style games, you will be put into a world filled with other players and NPC's as you take on activities (or just go exploring) within the massive open world. You can take on missions alone or with a group of others, the game also features a bounty system which will give players a an incentive towards leveling their character and taking out players who decide to go the way of the outlaw and gun down innocents.

As you explore the world, you can travel to various towns and equip yourself with new weapons, change your outfits or even chill out in the friendly (mostly) saloons on display. Plus players will also be able to enjoy little mini games within them, like blackjack or roulette.

Polygon managed to get a statement from the developers, detailing a little more about what players can expect with the "Adult" aspects within the game. Since the game is likely to be played by a younger audience, they want to tackle certain elements as best they can.

“We have several ideas on how to bring the adult theme into the game, but we haven't made any final decisions yet. It's a complex feature because while we want to have a ‘historically realistic’ game, we first and foremost don't want to offend any players.”

Players will also be able to pick the gender of their character, which is a key part of any MMO as offering customisation can make each person stand out from the crowd - but it's not clear exactly what interactions will occur just yet by picking a specific gender.

Like Red Dead Redemption, exploration will be a key factor in the game and you will be able to travel a huge open world that is filled with life in it. Getting around is just as easy, as you'll be able to ride on a horse or even fast travel from various points within the map. Should you just want to settle down, the game will also allow you to build and manage your own farm - which we hope also includes cattle rustling!
