Taking on the Destiny 2 PS4 Beta as a Destiny Newbie
Destiny 2 Beta kicks off on the PS4 for the upcoming action MMO shooter sequel Destiny 2, take a look at the Hunter class gameplay for the Homecoming Mission.
The wait is over and now PS4 and Xbox One players can jump into the Closed Beta for Destiny 2. Included in the Beta is the Homecoming Mission, Inverted Spire Mission as well as the Crucible Multiplayer modes, and players will also be able to experience the new social hub "The Farm" when it opens up for an hour on Sunday evening.
While we wait patiently for Activision to open up the PC Beta next month, it's fair to say that they have a hit on their hands with the current state of Destiny 2. For someone who has never played Destiny before, I love the approach they are taking with certain elements and abilities. Having played a fair few MMO games over the years I like variety in classes and being able to switch talents around can offer a fresh way to play a class, with Destiny 2 you will have access to at least 2 types of subclass (that we know of) and each one feels unique.
Below you will get a small taster for the Hunter class as we take on the Homecoming mission in full, as we slice and shoot our way through countless enemies in various locations. You can also take a look at some of the gearing, talents and weapons on offer as we explore the Hunter in greater detail. Should you want to read more about the classes we did a little guide recently that you may be interested in.

Even as a small taster for the full game, Bungie is leaving players wanting more and they have also included the Inverted Spire mission which we'll be covering in full later as we take down one of the bosses you'll be facing for loot. We will also take a look at the various PVP modes, including the Endless Vale and Midtown maps.
Destiny 2 Closed Beta Content on Console
Here's a rundown of everything that is included in the current closed Beta on console:
- Opening Story Mission - Here you can play Homecoming, the opening story mission of Destiny 2 that was originally shown off at the gameplay reveal in LA.
- Two Crucible Maps and Modes - The classic Control will be playable, as well as the new Countdown mode, which is attack and defend based. The Crucible maps Vostok and Endless Vale will be playable in the Destiny 2 beta.
- Inverted Spire Strike - The co-operative Inverted Spire Strike was another aspect to be shown at the gameplay reveal in LA.
- New Sub-Classes - You'll be able to try out the Warlock's Dawnblade and Voidwalker, the Hunter's Arcstrider and Gunslinger, and the Titan's Sentinel and Striker abilities for yourself.
- New Social Space: The Farm - The Farm will be accessible for the first time in the Destiny 2 beta, but only for one hour on July 23 at 6PM BST.
- New Emblem - You can unlock a new Emblem for the full game if you participate in the Destiny 2 beta.
It's unclear whether or not developer Bungie will be opening up more to do when the PC Beta arrives next month, for now we can hopefully expect to see the same set of modes that the console players have access to currently.
The Destiny 2 PC Beta is launching in August, with the full game on PC coming October 24th. You can pre-order to get Early Access to the Beta when it starts up. As an Official Partner of Activision Blizzard, codes will be delivered to you as soon as they are available.
