Rumour: GTA 6 takes place in Vice City + South America, lead female character and launches in 2022
Rumours claim inside sources suggest the next entry of Grand Theft Auto will be set in Vice City and South America, feature a female lead and launch in 2022.
While it's not the first time that a rumour has been circling the internet for the next entry in the GTA series, few have had any real claim to an inside scoop. Thanks to a new video (below) from The Know, hosts Ashley Jenkins and Gustavo Sorola talk a bit about the next entry in the series as it takes place in Miami and features a new playable female lead character. The source for their info is apparently an insider, however it's unclear exactly who has revealed what and whether or not it's official or bogus. All info should be taken with a grain of salt as the rumour is unconfirmed at present.
Not only will the next entry supposedly take place in Vice City once again, but it will also take place in South America. Players will likely once again be able to explore a massive open world and take on a variety of activities. It's unclear whether or not the game will feature multiple protagonists as seen in GTA 5 or not, which featured 3 playable characters. Rockstar are currently hard at work on Red Dead Redemption 2, so expect GTA 6 to appear around 2022 at the earliest.
According to The Know, Rockstar are currently working on GTA 6 under the codename "Project Americas". The news portal has not always been accurate in their reporting, and some of their previous reports have been swept under the rug. They did manage to predict Dark Souls 3 details before others though. It does however give us a little speculation/discussion on where the setting could be.
Previously it was also reported that the next entry of GTA might even be set in Tokyo, which is something we'd like to see for sure. There's also a chance the series may shift back to London for a true next gen experience as the series has not been back to the UK since March 1999 with the spin off "Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969". Wherever the franchise goes next we're expecting big things for the next entry in the series.
Unfortunately there's nothing official about the news and right now Rockstar is currently hard at work on their upcoming Western sequel Red Dead Redemption 2, which is launching in October for PS4 and Xbox One. We can still speculate on the existence of GTA 6 and where it might be set though, as this new video from The Know goes into greater detail.
While you wait for any news on the next entry in the GTA series, you can take a trip to Los Santos this week with our deal on GTA 5 which is currently 50% off in our 2k Games Promo. We've also got a deal on the GTA Trilogy for 72% off which features Vice City, GTA 3 and San Andreas.
