Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era – Trailer reveals revamped Necromancy faction
Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era introduces the dark faction in the new Necropolis faction trailer and shows the fundamentally revamped necromancy system for the first time.
With the new Necropolis faction trailer, developer Unfrozen and publisher Hooded Horse present the undead faction from Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era. The faction was already announced in 2024, but has undergone significant development since then. In the video, you can see the revamped Necromancer City, new Dread Knights, and the dark atmosphere that will characterize Necropolis in the upcoming strategy title.
A key issue is the redesign of necromancy. According to the development team, simple numerical adjustments were not enough to balance the system effectively. Instead, the mechanics are now based on the strongest enemy squad you defeat on the world map. Its size determines whether and how many undead are created after a battle, depending on necromancy strength and available necromancer energy. This resource limits resurrection and prevents uncontrolled growth later in the game Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era. If there are no suitable undead in your own army, energy is stored for later battles instead.
Another new feature is a spell that allows you to specifically disable resurrection in order to collect only necromantic energy. This solution was deliberately implemented via the familiar spell system, but will also receive a toggle option in the interface in Early Access.
Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era remains faithful to the classic HoMM series formula: turn-based combat, exploration of a global map, city building, and tactical armies. The new necromancy is designed to do one thing above all else—force you to plan more and make strategic decisions, especially when choosing routes on the map.
