Hunt: Showdown 1896 - Event "Devil's Trail" starts on March 18 with Update 2.7
Hunt: Showdown 1896 receives a new in-game event called "Devil's Trail", featuring hidden extraction points, five new hunters, a fire-breathing monster, and major gameplay changes. The hunt begins on March 18.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a competitive first-person extraction shooter by Crytek with strong PvE elements. Up to 12 players compete simultaneously against each other and the game itself — hunting powerful monster bosses in the Louisiana swamps or the Colorado mountains of 1896, collecting bounty tokens, and attempting to extract alive. The twist: every hunter on the map is both predator and prey.
Devil's Trail: The map lies
The new event changes one of the fundamental gameplay mechanics of Hunt: Showdown. At the start of each mission, all supply and extraction points are hidden. If you want to leave safely, you must first explore the map, find scouting maps, or fulfill certain conditions — such as defeating a boss or collecting a bounty token. Newly added Scout Towers provide maps and additional equipment, including two new tarot cards: "The High Priestess" briefly reveals the direction of the nearest enemy hunter, while "The Pathfinder" temporarily marks all used clues on the map. Hidden Burned Convoys, identifiable by columns of smoke, reward brave explorers with high-tier loot.
The world remembers you
Crytek has also significantly expanded the passive tracking system: every interaction now leaves lasting traces. Opened crates remain open, destroyed barrels leave debris behind, killed animals remain as carcasses on the ground, and doors stay slightly ajar. Attentive players can reconstruct the exact path taken by enemy hunters from these clues — a major upgrade for scout-focused playstyles.
The event’s story revolves around two Anishinaabe cousins, One Who Flies and Red Raven, former military scouts sent into the corruption zones who end up in the hands of the sinister figure known as "The Cook". A poisoned injection grants them Dark Sight but slowly drives them insane. Five new hunters can be unlocked through the Battle Pass or purchased with Blood Bonds. A new AI enemy called the "Firebreather" adds further danger: once a gang member, the corruption has transformed him into a fire-breathing monster.
Update 2.7 also introduces extensive gunplay balancing changes as well as world adjustments. Full details will be available when the update launches on March 18. The developers will stream additional information live on their channels on March 11.
