LEGO 2K Drive launches May 19th, find out more about the open-world racing game!
On May 19th 2023, LEGO 2K Drive will leave the tuning workshop and invite you to go on a fast ride in the open world of Bricklandia. We summarise what you can expect in the game.
From developer Visual Concepts and publisher 2K comes an open-world racing game of a special kind on May 19th 2023, because in LEGO 2K Drive you are on the road with your brick runabouts in a colourful LEGO world. Your goal is to master races as a LEGO motorsport legend and build individual vehicles. This will be a lot of fun on its own, but we suspect LEGO 2K Drive will be on the fast track mainly with its local and online multiplayer modes. Here's what you can look forward to in the game - even if you're not a LEGO fan.
Four game modes in LEGO 2K Drive
- Story: Play LEGO 2K Drive in single-player mode or together on the splitscreen - players start out as unknown racing talents and sooner or later find themselves on the winner's podium as champions, competing against challenging rivals for the momentous Sky Cup. Each victory lets you get a little closer to the ruthless creep Shadow Z for the grand Sky Cup final.
- Cup Series: Get the real Grand Prix feeling with the Cup Series in LEGO 2K Drive. You earn points on a selection of tracks depending on your placing. Players with the highest total score finish on the podium. Each Bricklandia biome offers its own Grand Brick trophy series.
- Racing: Direct action without detours: In race mode, you choose any race track and class (the class influences the top speed and your available skills) and are immediately on the accelerator.
- Mini-games: No finish lines and high speeds are not necessarily required. In defence games you protect targets from robot attacks and in exciting rescue games you bring inhabitants of Bricklandia to safety from various threats.
LEGO 2K Drive crossplay and multiplayer modes - how to play together locally and online
- Local play via splitscreen: Drive together locally in splitscreen (i.e. on one screen) in two-player mode.
- Play online with friends and family: Get your friends together for a race party! You can even do this via Crossplay, which is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The largest mode in the online game with friends is the "Shared World", in which a maximum of 6 players simultaneously explore the possibilities of Bricklandia. All participants can see who is the fastest in the cup series and in the race mode of LEGO 2K Drive.
- Play with everyone: Compete with drivers from all over the world in this online mode. Crossplay in this mode too: on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The player search brings you together with racers with comparable skills, for more equal opportunities. Communication with other participants is not possible, as a relaxed racing atmosphere is important. Your own driving skills, the chosen vehicle and its individual adjustments are expression enough.
Make your own custom LEGO racing cars in LEGO 2K Drive with individual paint jobs
In LEGO 2K Drive, you build your own racing cars and modify them in the "workshop" - brick by brick to create your own dream car. To do this, you have hundreds of Lego bricks right at the start, neatly sorted for maximum convenience. According to 2K, you will unlock more than 1,000 parts in the course of the game. Wicked!
Vehicles are not only visually different from each other. In LEGO 2K Drive, attributes such as top speed, acceleration, energy, melee power and weight matter. All of this influences the driving style and handling. A distinction is also made according to weight classes, which range from "Very Light" to "Massive". Of course, massive racing vehicles don't only have advantages, but they should be able to withstand more. The more bricks you have, the heavier your car will be. Of course, LEGO 2K Drive is not a hardcore simulation, but rather an arcade racer for balanced driving fun.
You can customise engine sounds, brick shapes, paintwork and even the horn sound. Decide on the tyres of your vehicles and have your very own eye-catching vehicles with different stickers. Later, there will be a feature that allows you to share your creations online with the community.
