[Gamescom 2020] Watch 15 minutes of gameplay from Little Nightmares 2

The spooky puzzle adventure Little Nightmares has a growing fan base since its release in 2017. How does it go on? At the digital Gamescom 2020, publisher Bandai Namco gives a taste of the upcoming sequel with 15 minutes of gameplay footage!

The original Little Nightmares, released in 2017, and is considered a must-have title for puzzle/horror fans. The game proved it's success with many critics and fans alike calling it a masterpiece. On Steam the title from Bandai Namco shines with a "Very Positive" rating and on Metacritic the horror platformer has passed the important 80s mark. No wonder Bandai Namco is sticking to the franchise and will release the successor Little Nightmares 2 in 2021 (previously 2020). Even though the game may have had a small delay we've now been treated to a first look at 15 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming sequel. Smaller spoilers could be included.

The successor will also not feature any multicolored platform worlds, but most threatening horror scenarios with strong visual style. Nightmarish events, supported by a dark, idiosyncratic art-design with partly frightening characters. One feature that distinguishes the sequel from its predecessor is the chance to play play with two protagonists. In Little Nightmares, players would control Six, a little girl who must face her fears. In Little Nightmares 2 Six returns, and is joined by the new character Mono. They make their way to the Signal Tower by running, jumping, sneaking, pushing and pulling in the sidescroller past various dangers.

In the trailer it quickly becomes clear that developer Tarsier Studios knows its craft and manages to conjure a truly eerie atmosphere on the screen thanks to the successful combination of art and sound design. Imagine Resident Evil 7 with even more grotesque, unreal characters, between whom our two protagonists sometimes look like small, easily crushed victims. And indeed: Once you have fallen into a giant bear trap, life ends in a nightmare world that gamers do not want to leave.

If that doesn't trigger any depressions in you, Little Nightmares is definitely recommended - part 1 and part 2 (which will be available soon at Gamesplanet). According to early impressions, Little Nightmares 2 manages to realize even more game and puzzle depth than its predecessor did. Unfortunately the release has been delayed a bit and Little Nightmares 2 will now be released on February 11, 2021 for PC.
