Sci-fi Metroidvania in a techno ark: What's inside MIO: Memories in Orbit
In the sci-fi Metroidvania MIO: Memories in Orbit, you play as MIO, a robot exploring a decaying space ark full of memories and hidden systems.
With MIO: Memories in Orbit, you can expect a classic Metroidvania that combines exploration, story, and typical genre gameplay. You control the agile robot MIO, who is traveling in a huge space colossus: the so-called Vessel. This technological ark is half machine, half overgrown biotope—and is about to shut down for good. The reason for this is the failure of the Pearls, AI helpers that once watched over the balance of the system.
Your task takes you deep into the ramified interior of the Vessel. There, you uncover lost memories, help damaged robots, and gradually piece together the history of the place and MIO's own origins. The game world actively responds to you: environments provide clues, secret paths open up shortcuts, and optional areas reward curiosity with bonuses.
MIO: Memories in Orbit playfully focuses on freedom of movement and expansion. New abilities allow you to climb walls, glide through the air, or creatively overcome obstacles. In battle, you'll encounter more than 30 enemy types and 15 large guardian bosses that require different tactics. With hooks, projectiles, and tactical clones, you can flexibly adapt your play style to the Metroidvania.
In addition, you can specifically modify MIO's powers with collected components and modifiers. Particularly striking: Visually, the game scores with hand-drawn backgrounds in watercolor style, while a mix of lo-fi sounds and choral elements accompanies your exploration. It's a contrast that works surprisingly well.
