Monster Hunter Wilds Review Roundup
Monster Hunter Wilds storms the throne - 1st place in the Steam charts! The specialised press also gives its blessing to Capcom's series successor. We summarise the ratings from tests.
A gigantic fanbase, many acclaimed predecessor games in the series and now Capcom is going one better with Monster Hunter Wilds: The game dares to take a different approach to some gameplay elements. For example, you can simply shorten the search for certain monsters and go straight into battle. The previous hub structure gives way to a more open approach. Some things are now easier, others more difficult to master. According to the trade press, Capcom has managed to maintain the balance without making Monster Hunter Wilds feel like a completely different game. Fans will get their money's worth - beginners will probably find it easier in places. Even if the complex weapon and combat system still requires a lot of familiarisation. Which in turn benefits the varied endgame.
On the rating aggregator Metacritic, Monster Hunter Wilds currently stands at 88 out of 100 points (PC). OpenCritic currently stands at 89/100. Only the Steam reviews paint a different picture. Here, only 58% of the more than 65,000 user reviews are currently positive. It is not uncommon - especially so soon after release - for such serious differences to occur. Because if something doesn't run smoothly for gamers straight away, quite a few tend to publicly vent their anger with a poor rating. Even if it is due to a faulty or inadequate computer configuration, for example.
Of course, Monster Hunter Wilds is not (yet) completely bug-free. Nevertheless, for the vast majority of MHWilds players, the positive gaming experiences clearly outweigh the negative ones. One indicator of this is our support area. Hardly anyone wants to return MHWilds and the number of technical support requests is also very low despite the high sales figures. Capcom has delivered well and the reviews confirm this.
