Mortal Kombat 1 - Everything you need to know!
Fighters battle it out once more with the release of Mortal Kombat 1 on September 19th (or September 14th with the Premium Edition). Get up to speed with our recap guide while you wait!
What is Mortal Kombat 1?
Light Spoiler Warnings for Mortal Kombat 11
Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest entry in the long-running bloody fighter series, which saw the first release all the way back in 1992. The game takes place directly after the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and it's aftermath expansion, where Liu Kang has become the Fire God and taken control over the hourglass of time, allowing him to create a new timeline, hence the rebooted Mortal Kombat 1.
As the name would suggest, the series has soft reset itself, even though earlier games and moments do still count. You'll meet old faces, but with different backgrounds. For example: Raiden is no longer the Elder God, and is instead a Student of Liu Kang, who will represent Earthrealm in the tournament against Outworld. Sub Zero and Scorpion, mortal enemies in previous games, are now fighting alongside one another as brothers.
The game features a number of modes, including a full single player story campaign, multiplayer modes and even some fun little mini games. At launch the roster will consist of most of your favourites such as: Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Raiden, Kitana and more. It's also been revealed that a few celebrities will be lending their voices and likeness to characters such as Megan Fox as Nitara, or a special Johnny Cage Skin (available Day 1 with the Premium Edition) from the martial arts master Jean-Claude Van Damme!
Of course the starting roster is just the tip of the iceberg, and it's already been revealed that several faces will be joining the fight in the future including: Homelander (The Boys), Omni-Man (Invincible) and Peacemaker. New to the series are "Kameo Fighters", which can be called into battle to assist you in gameplay. These feature classic skins of fighters you know, such as the original Sonya Blade from 1992, or the original Scorpion. And yes, there's plenty of bloody fatalities to end fights on.
Whether you're a newcomer to the series, or can remember all the way back to the original, Mortal Kombat 1 is the perfect fighting game to dive into.

Mortal Kombat 1 PC system requirements
Not sure if your rig is up to the bone crunching requirements needed to run the game? Luckily the requirements are fairly reasonable and close to Mortal Kombat 11's requirements. All players will need at least a Windows 10 64-bit OS, with either an Intel Core i5-6600, AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or Ryzen 5 2600 CPU. On the GPU side it's more tame with a minimum requirement of either a Nvidia GeForce GTX 980, AMD Radeon RX 470 or Intel Arc A750.
Even if you want to crank things up further, the recommended specs are still fairly reasonable with an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X paired with either a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A770 Graphics Card.
As always we'd recommend making sure you have the latest drivers for your Graphics Card to ensure the smoothest experience at release - AMD / Nvidia.

Will Mortal Kombat 1 run on the Steam Deck?
Currently we don't have any information regarding the Steam Deck, but it's possible it'll at least run, whether that's at a reasonable framerate or not is hard to say. The previous game Mortal Kombat 11 is not officially supported by Steam Deck, but can run fairly well.
