The VR market is growing fast, with the PlayStation VR ahead

Good news for all fans of VR: Over the past quarter, the market has outperformed expectations. Price drops on hardware and new VR games could be the reason.

For a while now the VR market is not something that has had the best start, with high priced hardware off-putting customers and a lack of titles, but that's slowly changing and now sales are on the rise. According to a new report by Canalys, the reductions in price for the third quarter of 2017 have managed to see a spike in sales for VR hardware. Sony leads the race with their PlayStation VR despite the lack of horsepower with the hardware, manages to get 49% of sales in the market during Q3.

Sony's PSVR managed to sell over 490,000 units for their PS4 console, which makes up 49% of the VR headsets shipped during Q3 2017. This was likely due to hardware promotions on the console being bundled with the headset, though the price itself has remained almost fixed with few drops on the SRP. Not to mention the strong lineup of PSVR titles such as: Resident Evil 7, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Batman Arkham VR, Thumper and many more. Meanwhile in Japan the PSVR saw a market share of 80%, with various public "VR Experience Zones" showing off the VR headset in all it's glory to gamers looking to try VR themselves.

After the PSVR comes the Oculus Rift, making up 21% of the market, and the HTC Vive making up around 16%. The remaining 14% of the market was made up of other VR headsets from other developers. Other big names are also starting to get their hands on the VR race with HP, Dell and ASUS all looking into ways to bring their own devices to the fight. This means that gamers are given more choice when deciding which headset to purchase, and with more VR headsets we should see an increase in the number of games being supported in the future.

We're starting to see a number of VR titles in the works, soon Bethesda will be releasing VR versions of for two of their biggest titles with DOOM VFR arriving on December 1st for the HTC Vive, followed by [Fallout 4 VR](https: //uk.gamesplanet.com/game/fallout-4-vr-steam-key--2838-9) on December 12th (also a Vive exclusive title). As to why the titles are a Vive exclusive, this is due to an ongoing legal dispute between Bethesda's parent company Zenimax and the Oculus team. Hopefully they will eventually be able to settle their issues and bring both titles to the Oculus in the future.
