The weather services are forecasting thick fog: Silent Hill: Townfall sends you, as Simon Ordell, to the remote Scottish island of St Amelia to ‘set things right’. But this seemingly deserted, fog-shrouded place has preserved memories and truths that would have been better left buried. Developed by the Scottish studio Screen Burn (known for the BAFTA-winning “Observation”) and published in collaboration with Annapurna Interactive and Konami, Townfall is played entirely from a first-person perspective: Using the CRTV, a portable mini-television, you’ll pick up spotty signals, uncover clues and evade dangerous creatures – either through stealth or head-on combat, though the latter is resource-intensive. Early reviews suggest that stealth elements dominate the game and that fighting is by no means always the best option. Important for pre-orderers: Anyone opting for the Deluxe Edition can immerse themselves in the horrors of St. Amelia as early as September 22nd thanks to 48 hours of Advanced Access – meaning they can start playing the game two days early.

The biggest expansion in the series’ ten-year history is here: Total War: Warhammer 3 – Lords of the End Times unleashes no fewer than four new Legendary Lords in the epic Immortal Empires campaign mode. These include Nagash, the First Lich and Lord of Death; the loathsome Nurgle-worshipping Brotherhood of the Glottkin; the Skaven Grey Seer Thanquol and his mighty Verminlords; and the human Boris the Deathbringer. Each Lord brings with them entirely unique gameplay mechanics, new unit rosters and lore features. Alongside this, a comprehensive free update is being released, which overhauls the Vampire Counts centred around the new Legendary Lord, Vampire Countess Neferata, revamps Archaon the Everchosen, and introduces new endgame scenarios as well as fresh victory conditions for virtually all factions. A nice bonus: anyone who purchases one of the four Lord packs will, for the first time, gain access to Immortal Empires without needing to own a Total War: Warhammer base game.
