Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V is the pinnacle of the series, it's without a doubt the best game I have ever played and became my favourite game of all time back in 2013. It has everything you could want in a game, a great story, fantastic characters, plenty of variety, a large city filled with even the tinies of detail and so much more. Instead of having one character to control you get 3 to do missions with, each one has their own unique style and action ability that can be used. Controls are tight in everything from driving to shooting, it's like each one could make up their own game! Exploring the city is such a treat and because of the size you're going to be exploring for a long time, perhaps you'll even spot some of the smallest things that you never even knew were in it. Multiplayer is such a blast with friends, imagine having a living world to be in and do anything you want with virtually no limit. There are even custom modes the community has created such as dog fighting jets or perhaps a cat & mouse chase with jets hunting down people on bikes. Heists are probably the best thing about the game, you can plan your mission and then decide how you want it to play out - whether you go for the quiet approach or go in guns blazing.

Since the original release back in 2013 the improved PC version features support for up to 4k resolutions, a first person mode, improved weather effects, more wildlife, increased traffic and so much more. Shoutout to the soundtrack too as it's got one of the biggest ever created for a videogame (they even added more for the updated version) at around 391 tracks from the greats such as Queen, Kenny Loggins, ZZ Top, Britney Spears, Rihanna to original artists and lesser known tracks.

I could go on and on about this game, there are so many great moments whether it's trying to get someone out of a tall building by rappelling down the side of it or even landing a small plane into a larger cargo plane. Choices in games are often limited by what's available to the player, imagine if you had a sandbox and could do anything - it would be GTA 5. There is no other game for me, this even replaced Ocarina of Time as my favourite so it must have done something right as it held that spot for 15 years.

If you too want to be visiting the wonders of Los Santos, you can get it here for 50% off! Additionally you can save up to 71% off the entire franchise!

Dead Rising 2 - Off the Record

The original Dead Rising was a great sandbox zombie survival game where you play as Frank West, a photojournalist who tries to survive an outbreak in a Colorado shopping mall. Dead Rising 2 took place 5 years after the end of the original was based in Nevada with the lead falling to Chuck Greene who had to save his daughter. Dead Rising 2 - Off the Record takes the original Dead Rising 2 and adds Frank West to the mix allowing for a different spin on the game. Many of the same elements from the original games are featured but there are some improvements and additional things added to this version with new missions, cutscenes (including several different endings), environments, enemies, and weapons. Also returning from Dead Rising is the photo mode which let's you capture zombie poses for PP (prestige points) that you can use to upgrade weapons or skills.

Gameplay sees you taking on various missions in a 72 hour period, if you decide to take a more relaxed approach there is a sandbox mode that let's you do just that. The game features Coop allowing one player to be Frank West and the other Chuck Greene, it's a great game to play with a friend causing chaos against some zombies is rewarding. You can also combine weapons to create some really awesome items such as a laser sword (let's just call it a lightsaber) or a power guitar to unleash some killer rock on the hoard.

It's a fun game with a good story and an even better coop experience, if you're bored of the usual zombie games then this might be a good change of pace as it offers plenty of crazy gameplay and some humour that's refreshing.

The entire Dead Rising Franchise is on sale today for up to 75% off!

Borderlands Franchise

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 is the sequel Borderlands, developed by Gearbox Software. Set once again on Pandora, you play as one of several classes of Vault Hunter and you end up going on a hunt to stop Handsome Jack's plan to unleash a powerful creature called "The Warrior". Along the way you'll travel far and wide to some exotic locations and even meet up with some characters from the original game such as Moxxi or Scooter. Gameplay is very loot oriented, you defeat enemies and they drop guns, items or maybe even a cool new skin for you to unlock. At your disposal you have some very poweful skill trees which unlock new action skills that you can use to unleash some pain or provide backup on defense. One of the best Coop shooters in recent years, best played with friends and some of the best story DLC - Tiny Tina's DLC is fantastic. If you can get a group of friends together this will be fun everyone.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Set between the events of Borderlands and *Borderlands 2, Pre-Sequel tells the story of how Handsome Jack rose to power. New classes such as Claptrap make things quite fun, never knowing if your action skill will help you or make things worse, other characters such as Athena might use a shield to soak up bullets and then throw it back at the enemy. One of the big changes from Borderlands 2 is that this takes place on Pandora's Moon "Elpis", by being set on the moon you have a lack of gravity and you can use that to travel across wide canyons with boosts or butt slam enemies. Another new addition is various different weapons, maybe you have a freezing gun and then use a butt slam to finish them off! While the story isn't great at times and the gameplay is basically more Borderlands, the game is still fun and worth playing with friends.

Resident Evil 4

Originally released way back in 2005 and re-released in 2014, Resident Evil 4 sees Leon Kennedy make his return to the franchise. Leon travels to a village in Eastern Europe to find the President's daughter who has been kidnapped, though as you'd expect things aren't quite normal as the mysterious group known as the Los Illuminados are trying to prevent you from doing that. One of the biggest additions to this game over the original games in the series was the ability to have a closer camera which allowed for easier aiming during tense shootouts, another feature to the series was the fact you could now aim at different body parts to slow them down (such as shoot them in the leg to cause them to stumble).

It was the first game in the series to also add the quick time event system, something that would later continue in the franchise but they were never over the top. The inventory consists of a grid that up with various weapons, items or ammo, luckily you can always get help with the merchant that shows up at various points in the game and use him to restock on certain things.

The recent Resident Evil 4: The Ultimate HD Edition has several improvements over the orginal such as a game that runs at 60 frames per second, controls have been reworked to make them more responsive (including rebinds) and also many other things such as improved graphics. There are even some great boss battles, one of them has you fighting a cave troll and another might have you fighting a giant snake. If you never experienced it the first time around, this is probably the best version of the game you'll find - and it's on sale right now!

You can grab the game here for 65% off today or get one of the other games in the franchise for up to 87% off!

LEGO Franchise

LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens

In short, it's fantastic. Possibly the best movie tie in of recent years and has set a new standard for movie > game tie ins. Unlike LEGO Jurassic World which came out last year this features dialogue from the original cast of actors so you'll have Han Solo being voiced by Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn and so on (some were replaced, example Admiral Ackbar actor who sadly passed away but for the most part they do a good job). They even went one further and managed to get them to recreate new parts, so it's not just a case of pulling audio from the movies - THEY ACTUALLY MADE NEW DIALOGUE.

It follows the movie very closely and the first level isn't actually from The Force Awakens at all but puts you in the Battle of Endor with the Ewoks and AT AT's as well as fighting with The Emperor on the Death Star, it's a nice little intro into the series and bridges the gap between 6 and 7 a little. There are even levels which have side stories like how Han and Chewie got the Rathtars which involved having a bigger crew.

There are several new features in LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens, you have multi builds which let you pull apart certain LEGO bricks to recreate something completely new to help you solve puzzles, these are used quite a bit and never overused. Also new to the series are Blaster Battles which are cover based shootouts like games like Gears of War (but easier since it's a family game after all).

It's a huge game too, featuring several hub worlds (much like many other LEGO games) including the Millennium Falcon, Jakku, Starkiller Base and more you have plenty of things to hunt if you're a fan of LEGO games you'll know each one can take you ages to 100% the game, same is true here. The game has over 200 characters (including some throwback characters to some classic ones from previous movies),

As for the Season Pass, it will feature 5 character packs and 3 level packs on various Star Wars things such as The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels etc. The Season Pass will also add levels like how C-3PO got his red arm or how Poe got off Jakku. You can read more about it here.

After a disappointing LEGO Marvel's Avengers this year it was such a refreshing change to play this game, as it made me smile all the way from start to finish (I haven't managed to 100% it yet though). If you're a fan of the movie then you should pick this up, even at this price. You will not regret it.

Grab it here.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes

This is without a doubt in my mind the best LEGO game to date. Everything is here, a huge list of characters (even some you might not know about), a wide open New York with the Shield Helicarrier above, crazy side mission levels narrated by Deadpool (Nolan North), races, a compelling story and great level design. This is a dream for any LEGO/Marvel fan, if you enjoy any of those then you should pick this up.

BioShock Infinite

2013 was such a great year for videogames, we had so many great titles it was probably one of the best years ever for gamers. Bioshock Infinite was not only a great game, it was the best story I had played that year (including GTA V which was my favourite game of 2013). I'd never finished the previous games in the series and that was ok since this is a completely separate story that doesn't really share a connection with other games in the series. You play as Booker De Witt, a private eye that's been hired to rescue a girl called Elizabeth from a city in the clouds - Columbia. One of the biggest draws of the game is the way it connects characters and they come alive like an animated movie, it's a real treat seeing banter between Elizabeth and Booker. Elizabeth has her own power that allows her to open up dimensional tears to other places which can be used to help Booker by finding ammo, health or money at even the most dangerous times when you're in trouble.

Like previous entries in the series you're given a great landscape to explore though it does feel a bit limited to previous Bioshock exploring and has a more linear path (though that's not really a bad thing). In the original games you were given plasmids to help you out, this time they are replaced by vigors which do various things like summon a flock of crows, possessing enemies (even machines) to help you out and much more! Each one can even have an upgraded effect, best of all every single one can be combined with another to create even more fun. Since most of the game features you high above the clouds in a city it does also bring with it a new element as you use a skyhook to grapple from skylines for faster movement in the air as well as using it in combat as a melee weapon. You do still get plenty of weapons in the game and most of them can be upgraded to do more damage, there are also gear upgrades that allow you to do various things with weapons.

One of the best stories in a game I have ever played, it's full of emotion and even if the gunplay doesn't feel great at times it doesn't matter one bit. It's a game I could recommend to anyone for the joy of exploring Columbia with Elizabeth.
