Ninja Gaiden 4: Between tradition and new paths – Interview with Team Ninja
In the new “Difficulty Overview” video, Joe Muntal from Team Ninja explains how Ninja Gaiden 4 preserves the legacy of the series while opening new doors.
Unrelenting combat, reimagined
As Muntal from developer Team Ninja emphasizes, the core of the series remains untouched: uncompromising action and a difficulty level that forgives no mistakes. To reinforce this feeling, Ninja Gaiden 4 features dynamic enemy placement and more aggressive, scaling AI. This makes every battle an unpredictable challenge that adapts to the player's skill level and keeps the tension high.
Balance between difficulty and accessibility
In the video, Muntal emphasizes that while the game is committed to the legacy of the series, it also wants to attract new players to Ninja Gaiden. To this end, the game introduces Hero Mode, a kind of protective mechanism that provides support in critical moments. In addition, there are customizable assists that specifically facilitate certain aspects such as timing or defense. According to Muntal, this preserves the soul of Ninja Gaiden while significantly lowering the barrier to entry.
He pays particular attention to the new training mode in Ninja Gaiden 4, which is included in the series for the first time. This allows players to practice combos and movement sequences before entering into actual combat. For a game that was previously conquered through “learning by dying,” this is a very interesting new feature.
New sense of intensity
The combination of smart enemy logic, aggressive attack patterns, and the typical speed of the fights also ensures that veterans feel right at home. At the same time, the new aids make the game more accessible—without sacrificing the identity of the series.
