Onimusha: Way of the Sword - New Trailer from State of Play
Wow… has it really been 20 years since “Dawn of Dreams” came out? The Onimusha series is returning this year with Way of the Sword. Capcom released a new trailer yesterday and announced the release date and a demo.
In the new Onimusha: Way of the Sword, you step into the boots of the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, who finds himself in a corrupted version of Kyoto at the beginning of the Edo period. Armed with the famous Oni Gauntlet, he must face the Genma, demonic creatures that have overrun the city. Capcom promises a higher technical standard than most modern hack-and-slash games, without, however, attempting to mimic the formula of Souls-like games. The game is, of course, being developed using the RE Engine, the proven in-house engine that will bring the dark fantasy universe—set against a backdrop of Japanese folklore and populated by grotesque monsters—to life.
Good news: A free demo is now available and can be accessed via our product page. It lets you explore one of the game’s early areas, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, as well as a selection of the most important combat mechanics. The demo features parries, soul absorption, Oni techniques, and a battle against Sasaki Ganryu, Musashi’s main rival.
As is now standard practice, your progress in the demo will carry over to the full version, and you’ll even unlock a bonus talisman.
Pre-order Onimusha: Way of the Sword on Gamesplanet for Bonuses
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released on September 25, 2026, for PC. Pre-orders are already available on Gamesplanet for the Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe.
