“Onimusha: Way of the Sword” is coming out three weeks earlier than planned
Just a few days ago, a completely different release date was being discussed. However, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is now set to be released on September 4, 2026, rather than September 25 as originally planned. Capcom is moving up the release date significantly.
A bit of a surprise from Capcom: Onimusha: Way of the Sword will hit stores three weeks earlier than originally announced. Instead of September 25, you’ll be able to dive into the fray as early as Friday, September 4, 2026. Capcom cites the overwhelmingly positive feedback on the demo, which has generated a lot of excitement in recent weeks as the reason for the change. Of course September was already a packed month for releases, so having it launch earlier makes more sense for people to be able to play it.
With the release date moved up, there’s also a change to the bonus system: The original pre-order bonus has been converted into an early-access bonus and will remain available until September 26, 2026, at 1:59 a.m. CEST. Anyone who has already played the demo and kept their save data can also look forward to an extra bonus for the full version. The demo itself will receive a technical update ahead of time, though it won’t include any new content.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is an action-adventure game focused on thrilling sword combat. Just call it a Soulslike. Take on the role of samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who returns from the dead thanks to mysterious oni powers and now fights against the demonic Genma. The setting is early Edo-period Kyoto, steeped in dark fantasy elements, where danger and intrigue lurk around every corner. The combat system offers two modes: a story-driven mode for casual players and a challenging hardcore mode for those who want to put their swordsmanship to the test.
