Return to Monkey Island - Gameplay Trailer and game launches in 2022!

Practice your sword fighting jokes as Return to Monkey Island arrives on PC in 2022. Here you can see the first gameplay trailer for the adventure game.

The celebrated adventure series will continue this year as Return to Monkey Island will follow on from the legendary point-and-click adventures The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge in 2022 - with familiar characters and the humour the series is known for. Because none other than Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert is responsible for the new Return to Monkey Island.

What has changed, however, is the look of the game. Don't expect a retro pixel look, like in Thimbleweed Park, but a completely new graphic style. It is (we think) appealing and also modern and thus contemporary. But still, we would have liked to see an optional graphics mode with a pixel look setting as a bonus feature. Dear Mr. Gilbert, please (retroactively) add such a mode to the game! But who knows, maybe the development studio will surprise us with this feature in the end.

What is Return to Monkey Island about? Old warhorse Guybrush Threepwood never solved the mystery of Monkey Island and now wanders restlessly. Stan is in jail for "marketing-related crimes", Guybrush's only love, Elaine Marley, no longer rules and now younger pirates are in charge of Melee Island, led by leader Captain Madison.

On your way to Melee Island, you'll meet old friends, chat with friends and face the dangers on other islands after exciting journeys to sea. One thing is clear: Return to Monkey Island, under the direction of Ron Gilbert, will almost certainly play up with old adventure strengths, challenge you with crunchy puzzles and unleash funny situations. The hype is undoubtedly already unleashed - for example with the gameplay reveal trailer shown here.
