What is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice?

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a hardcore action game from the developers behind Dark Souls. From Software's latest title sees you play in the role of the "one-armed" wolf, a Shinobi who was left for dead and must get revenge for what was done to him. You'll explore a large open world filled with creatures to defeat and plenty of secrets to find. The game is set in the late 1500s Sengoku Japan, in an age where conflict still rages on and the last remnants of power are vying for control. After losing your arm, you'll be forced to use a prosthetic limb to aide you. Fortunately for you it's capable of holding a number of tools that can assist you in battle such as a shield splitting axe or even deadly shruikens for long distance attacks.

Your trusty prosthetic arm not only provides you combat tools, but also the ability to zip around the environments with the grappling hook attachment. This gives you a new tactical advantage as you can get the drop on enemies from above or listen in on foes conversations to gain Intel. One of the biggest changes in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice over Dark Souls is the removal of classes and stats. Instead of getting new gear as you progress in your journey you'll keep the same weapon and amour that you start out with. While this move might scare a Dark Souls veteran, it's worth noting that you'll still be able to acquire new abilities as you venture out into the world thanks to a tiered skill tree that offers a variety of powerful moves.

Speaking of combat, the game relies heavily on a Rock Paper Scissors mechanic that will see you Blocking, Dodging and Jumping your way out of situations thanks to a stamina bar. IF you time your attacks well you'll be able to counter-attack back at your enemies to deal fatal deathblows. Mastering the art of countering is crucial as it can be a large blow to your foe that will make combat easier. Sekiro also has a number of bosses that will test your skills to their limit, with some truly memorable boss fights that will make any hardcore action game enthusiast happy with. Players will also be able to resurrect if they fall on the battlefield with a new mechanic that allows you revive after being defeated. This gives you an extra chance to finish off your foes, but be warned as using this and dying a second time could mean losing half of what you've earned up until that point.

It's clear that Sekiro: Shadows The Twice will appeal to veterans of the Dark Souls series, but also welcomes newcomers with a variety of improvements to gameplay mechanics.
