Silent Hill: Townfall – Launch trailer accompanies first positive reviews

Silent Hill: Townfall is due to be released on 24 September for PC (earlier for Deluxe Edition owners). The launch trailer showcases new creatures from St. Amelia, and the first reviews – as is typical for a Silent Hill game – are looking quite positive.

Just a few more days to go before you have to wade through the fog of St. Amelia. Silent Hill: Townfall officially launches on 24 September. To mark the upcoming release, Konami has now published the official launch trailer, which showcases new monsters and previously unseen corners of the mist-shrouded Scottish island town.

The story centres on Simon Ordell, who returns to St Amelia to “set things right”. What initially sounds like a peaceful homecoming quickly turns out to be a nightmare: Simon must battle his way through tense escape sequences, dangerous confrontations and tricky puzzles, whilst the dark truth behind the town is gradually revealed.

If you’re impatient, go for the Deluxe Edition of Silent Hill: Townfall: it grants you a full 48 hours of Advanced Access, so you can start playing before the official release. On top of that, the Deluxe Edition includes an alternative outfit for Simon, a digital artbook and the soundtrack as a bonus.

The review embargoes have already been lifted, and the general tone is optimistic: critics are particularly highlighting the dense, oppressive atmosphere and the excellent sound design. There is some criticism of the repetitive stealth mechanics and the lack of enemy variety, but on the whole, a solid to strong Metascore is emerging – a good sign for fans of the series just before launch.
