Sins of a Solar Empire 2: Harbinger Expansion Announced

With the “Harbinger” expansion, Sins of a Solar Empire 2 will gain a new faction on September 3, 2026: the Eidolon, the ancient threat to the Vasari.

For nearly 10,000 years, the Vasari in Sins of a Solar Empire 2 have been on the run from the force that once shattered their entire empire. With the upcoming Harbinger expansion, this threat finally gets a face: the Eidolon. Unlike the other factions in this 4X space strategy game, the Eidolon have little interest in planets, trade routes, or wealth. Instead, they rely on infiltration: they spread corruption, conceal worlds that have completely fallen to them, and launch ambushes with cloaked fleets.

Harbinger playfully introduces some exciting new mechanics to Sins of a Solar Empire 2. Zero weapons ignore enemy shields, and psionic abilities drive Vasari crews mad, causing them to fire on their own allies. Particularly macabre: units infected by corruption sometimes simply refuse to die and keep fighting. Planets that fall completely under Eidolon influence can also be cloaked, offering significantly more strategic options. A revamped animation system adds even more life to the battlefield, from turrets snapping back into position to hangar doors opening.
