Slitherine event Home of Wargamers 2022: Unveiling of new strategy games
When the strategy game specialists from Slitherine Games celebrate an event, they do it properly. At the "Home of Wargamers" livestream on 10 May 2022, new strategy games were unveiled. Here is a summary.
With Starship Troopers - Terran Command, Slitherine Games has had an ace in their sleeve for a while. Similar to Dune: Spice Wars by Shiro Games, it's not just fans of the film that are waiting for the game. Starship Troopers also has enough to offer for those gamers who can't relate to the insect-ridden film universe. If you are into entertaining real-time strategy games you might have something to look forward to too. Starship Troopers - Terran Command is currently undergoing a final polish in the game forge before it finally invites you to cheerful insect hunting on 16 June 2022. Starship Troopers is already available for pre-order (at a reduced price) on Gamesplanet.
This year's "Home of Wargamers" event by Slitherine has also surprised us with two really interesting new announcements.
Freshly announced: Ancient Arenas: Chariots
Who still remembers Qvadriga from 2014? The graphics of the game with its top-down view were not its strong point, and yet users gave the game a "very positive" rating on Steam. It was probably all about the inner beauty, as is often the case with strategy games.
Slitherine Games have now announced the spiritual successor to Qvadriga, the much prettier Ancient Arenas: Chariots. The more contemporary graphics, however, should not hide the fact that the game transports us to ancient Rome, at a time when chariot races were virtually the Formula 1 of antiquity. In the chariot racing simulation you train horses, seek the blessing of the gods and diligently upgrade your wooden carriages. All of that in a turn based fashion.
Unfortunately, the first announcement trailer for Ancient Arenas: Chariots does not show any gameplay, but only a pre-rendered 3D sequence. And the developer studio has not yet given a specific release date. For the time being, we'll have to make do with a "coming soon". But if you jump to the time marker 2:06:40 in the livestream video linked above, you can watch the live presentation at the Home of Wargamers event again - also with gameplay scenes and explanations by the developers.
Another fresh reveal: Field of Glory: Kingdoms
There are already some excellent Field of Glory games and the next in the series is called Field of Glory: Kingdoms. Slitherine Games have not yet announced a release date for this game either ("Coming soon"), but they had an announcement trailer for the Wargamers event and a lot to show and tell in the livestream (in the livestream clip linked above from 1:01:00).
Field of Glory: Kingdoms is a challenging grand strategy game being developed in cooperation with the award-winning studio AGEOD. The events in FOG: Kingdoms take place in the year 1054 and will cover more than two centuries of European, African and Middle Eastern history. The full load of the Middle Ages, then, for all those who are looking for a little distance from modern wars.
The special features of Field of Glory: Kingdoms.
- 375 factions
- 325 units
- 600 Buildings
- 14 Religions/heresies
- 90 Cultural traits (all new)
Lots of politics, influential religions and, of course, wars are the best ingredients for complex medieval strategy. You can already find more information and pictures on our prepared product page for the game.
Slitherine Games didn't miss the chance to show more already known titles with their Home of Wargamers livestream. Enjoy the livestream recording and learn more about games like Broken Arrow (teaser), Master of Magic (from 22:20) and Stargate: Timekeepers (from 1:50:00).
