TEKKEN 8 - Everything you need to know!
On January 25th at 3pm PT / 11pm GMT, Bandai Namco will release the eighth instalment in the Tekken martial arts series. What is the game about and what should you consider before buying? We'll tell you here.
What is Tekken 8?
32 fighters right from the start, 16 arenas where you can fight to your heart's content: Tekken 8 kicks off on January 26th (or January 25th for those in the UK and US) with impressive fighting power. It has to be, because the beat 'em up series has been around since 1994 and the expectations of die-hard fans rise with every new instalment. But why are you actually beating each other up in Tekken 8?
The Mishima and Kazama families find themselves in a global conflict after moving father-son battles in the past. Both bloodlines are engaged in a feud from which there seems to be no way out. Good for us, because after all, we want to get our kicks. Incidentally, Bandai Namco is continuing the longest video game storyline with Tekken 8.
Now you might think that such martial arts games no longer offer anything new. But far from it: apart from the beautiful graphics based on the Unreal Engine 5 and the new (and returning) fighters, Tekken 8 also offers new gameplay features for old fighters. For example, there is the Heat system, which introduces additional strategic components to the game. If you activate your charged Heat bar, you can perform more powerful attacks - or you can go all out with a charged Heat account and perform the devastating Heat Smash combo. Would you prefer to use lots of small attacks within the activated Heat time window or a single, powerful attack that can also be blocked? Decisions, decisions. In combination with the Rage system adopted from Tekken 7, which allows you to turn up the heat one last time just before your own KO, this results in exciting exchanges of blows and dramatic twists in the arena.
In the brand new single-player mode called Arcade Quest, you create your own avatar in Tekken 8 and face various challenges in the arcade halls. A mode that should be particularly interesting for beginners, as the difficulty level only increases slowly. Play through your own arcade mode storyline and unlock various cosmetic items in the process.
