The Evil Within 2 allows players to customise their experience

Customisation plays a key role in the upcoming action horror sequel The Evil Within 2, developers talk more about the crafting system and upgrading Sebastian.

When it comes to the upcoming Evil Within 2 you will have freedom to play the way you choose, as customisation is a big part of the game and you will be able to guide Sebastian the way you decide - make him as tough as nails or stealthy to progress into the game, the choice is yours! As you help him save his daughter from the dark, gear and weapons will play a big role in the game and almost everything can be tweaked to your personal preference!

Game Director John Johanas sat down to explain a little more about the sequel and what we can expect with it:

The world of The Evil Within 2 is full of possibilities. With some of the larger stages we’ve created, we’re opening Union up to the players’ wishes and unique playstyles. Through the layout of the world, as well as the crafting and customization systems in the game, we’re providing you with the freedom to take on the challenges in front of you however you choose.”

Even though the game is at it's core a survival horror game you will be able to enjoy it as an action game. Cutomisation will be key and will allow Sebastian to become faster, harder and stealthier but you will still need to be smart in doing so as you never know what lurks around the next corner.

Unlike with the previous game you are no longer required to use Green Gel to your weapons, instead it will be used for the sole purpose of upgrading Sebastian and weapon parts will be used to upgrade your firepower. You will be able to customise Sebastian in various ways, each has their own category and will allow him to become more powerful, as well as allowing him to gain special abilities.

Upgrades for Sebastian include:

  • Health – Dropping some Green Gel in the Health tree will give you the chance to survive an attack that might have otherwise killed you. This is also how you increase Sebastian’s Life Gauge.
  • Stealth – In addition to an increased movement speed while crouching, the Stealth tree can allow you to perform Sneak Kills from around a corner while in cover.
  • Combat – If you’re building a more rough-and-tumble Sebastian, the Combat tree will help you increase the damage of your melee attacks and decrease the kickback when firing weapons, among other upgrades.
  • Recovery – The Recovery tree is for players who know how tough surviving this nightmare is going to be for Sebastian. Upgrades here include an increased health recovery speed when regenerating from near-death status, and the chance to automatically use a Medical Syringe when taking fatal damage.
  • Athleticism – For the Sebastian on the go, the Athleticism upgrade options will let you increase your Stamina Gauge and give you a chance to auto-avoid certain types of incoming attacks.

Weapons can also be customised and you can manage firepower, ammo, capacity, reload times and fire rate. Then there's the Warden Crossbow which has a completely different set of upgrades (though you'll still need Weapon Parts) and can be improved by increasing range, decreasing the time to fire and more. That's not all either as the Crossbow can have special ammo such as explosive bolts which aid in combat.

Johanas explained a little more about the type of crafting within the game for weapons:

Our crafting system lets you craft ammunition for the weapons that you like. You don’t have to rely solely on what you can scrounge up in the world. Again, it’s that emphasis on letting people play how they want to play. But it all comes back around to how much you explore and how many resources you can track down.

Items also play an important role as they can be taken back to the workbench and used for crafting, ammo will be available in the world but it may not be as easy to find (or for the weapon you want) - fortunately you can craft your own anywhere you want. Though if you decide to use a workbench it will cost less resources.

Evil Within 2 is available on Friday October 13th, you can pre-order the game today to get The Last Chance Pack which includes The Burst Handgun, Crafting Supplies and Medical Case.
