Rainbow Six Tactics: Ubisoft unveils XCOM-style spin-off at Gamescom
At Gamescom 2026, Ubisoft pulled off a surprise by releasing a teaser trailer for a new Rainbow Six game: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics offers tactical turn-based combat rather than real-time shooting – something that will particularly appeal to XCOM fans.
With Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, Ubisoft is opening a new chapter for the franchise – and building a bridge into the strategy genre: Rather than relying on quick reflexes, this spin-off focuses on turn-based tactics in the style of XCOM. In Rainbow Six Tactics, take on the role of the new Rainbow commander and take on a conspiracy that supports armed groups worldwide. Your mission: to track down and eliminate those behind it.
Familiar faces, new gameplay
For your missions, you’ll assemble teams of four made up of familiar Rainbow Six Siege operators, each with their own abilities, kit and tactical options – from explosive charges to reconnaissance drones. The missions take you to locations around the globe. The gameplay is turn-based: rescue hostages, defuse bombs or take out targets, whilst using the fully destructible environment to create lines of sight and escape routes. The ‘Breach’ feature sounds particularly exciting – it allows you to plan and execute synchronised assault runs with your squad, in true Rainbow Six style, but turn by turn rather than in real time. Between missions, you’ll expand your headquarters, train your operators and gather intelligence for the next mission.
A PC release is planned for 2027.
