What is Dragon's Dogma 2?

Dragon's Dogma 2 is the long-awaited sequel to Capcom's hugely popular action role-playing game from 2013 - which has an 81 rating on Metacritic. In the second installment, you step into the adventuring boots of an "Awakened One" who embarks on an epic journey to put a stop to a false occupant of the throne and defeat a powerful dragon. After all, you are the true Awakened and there's no shaking that! You'll have to earn your place on the throne (if that's a goal) and that will take a lot of playing time. The world of Dragon's Dogma 2 is huge and offers a multitude of landscapes, monsters and quests to explore. If you want to be shown this by actor Ian McShane, he has provided his voice for a presentation video from Capcom.

Ahead of release, Capcom has already made the more complex than average character creation available with a demo version, where players can customize not only their own Awakened, but also their main minion. With a variety of customization options, you'll be able to create unique characters that perfectly match your play style.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is described as a single-player title like the original game with an online component, the so-called minion network, which allows players to borrow minions (pawns) from other players - the really good minions that are above your own level, however, cost a little more in-game currency. The vassal system adds an interesting social dimension, as you can interact with other players' vassals, recruit them for your own adventures and gain real added value from them. For example, if such a leasing vassal is skilled in translating elven texts, he can also be a worthwhile investment outside of battles and even contribute tips for some quests.

The game's combat system is versatile and, thanks to the class system, allows you to choose whether you want to fight with swords, bows or magic, for example. Dragon's Dogma 2 makes a clear distinction between Tanks, Supporters and other classes. The chosen class determines how an Awakened fights. For example, a slender thief is nimble when climbing (even on enemies) and consumes less stamina than, say, a heavy melee fighter with a two-handed weapon, who has also been built in the character editor with a very muscular, broad appearance - even the physique has an effect on the gameplay. This allows for a very individual style of play and promotes replayability. You should always make sure you have a well-coordinated party mix.

As far as we know and contrary to some news reports on the net, there will be no Steam preload for Dragon's Dogma 2 (otherwise we'll update you here). You can explore the world of Verdum for the first time at 00:00 GMT on March 22nd, or if you're in the US that's 17:00 PDT on March 21st.

Will Dragon's Dogma 2 run on the Steam Deck?

We were given early access to the game and did try it on Steam Deck. Sadly based on the results it's not great and can run at 15 FPS on lowest settings during the pre-release. While it does run, it's not advised to run it on Deck.
