FarmCom 21: GIANTS shows off the new Elmcreek map from Farming Simulator 22
Not a Nightmare on Elmcreek, but a dream: Developer GIANTS presented the new Elmcreek map in detail in the FarmCom 21 livestream. Get a look at your future home!
Yesterday in the livestream of this year's FarmCom 21, GIANTS Software laid its cards on the table. One card to be precise - and it has a lot to offer. The focus of the presentation by Senior Level Designer Florian Busse is the Elmcreek map for Farming Simulator 22, for which the designers were visually inspired by the regions of the Midwest of the USA. Large areas for fields and your farm, extensive, flat landscapes, here and there that offer visual treats with babbling brooks. For relaxing rest periods between the hard hours of work on the field in Farming Simulator 22. You can watch the almost 10 minute video here, which - like the presentation of the seasonal weather conditions that was also revealed during the stream.
Elmcreek covers an area of 2x2 kilometres. Plenty of space for your farm. To ensure that you are not just presented with a dull, square area, the developers have come up with a lot of ideas to make the area as varied as possible. Larger areas are criss-crossed in many places by rivers, roads and streams. It is not only cow pastures that make players' hearts beat faster in Farming Simulator 22, but also feasts for the eyes: Green wooded hills with rock formations invite you to explore. You can even discover a small mountain range with a cave.
The new Elmcreek map has not only been designed around a horizontal extension - it also goes up in altitude, for example when bridges lead over road sections. Height and depth information shape the overall picture of this modernised map for Farming Simulator 22. Bridges also lead over railway lines, for example. GIANTS notes that you don't need to worry about the depth of water bodies. You can simply speed through them with vehicles.
Elmcreek does without urban structures and also without a condensed village. Instead, the developers have opted for extensive landscapes on the outskirts of the city. But that doesn't mean you have to do without visual features and buildings. Drop by the local petrol station or one of the smaller shops in Elmcreek. Typical American influences are not to be overlooked: There is even a bowling centre and a baseball stadium.
There are quite a few players who run their Farming Simulator on weaker PCs. Therefore, it was a challenge for GIANTS Software to accommodate the new scenic features and the multitude of buildings without causing noticeable performance drops in the rendering. Buildings in the distance should be hidden so that performance does not suffer and your computer does not puff like a tractor. For this reason, GIANTS has somewhat reduced the number of visible objects in the immediate vicinity for good performance balancing. The developers use a trick: trees are often in the field of vision so that building structures behind them in the distance do not have to be calculated and displayed in detail. The overall impression does not suffer from this.
