Middle-earth: Shadow of War adds Microtransactions to the game
Warner Bros. announces plans to include Microtransactions into their upcoming open world Lord of the Rings inspired sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
For years now games have added various types of currency to their in-game which could unlock skins, XP boosts or otherwise and now it appears the upcoming action sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be joining them by allowing players to use either in-game credits or real money to unlock items.
The following was posted as an Announcement on the Official Shadow of War forum, where it gave players a breakdown of everything you need to know on the Microtransaction system within the game.
An important aspect of the Nemesis System now comes in forging, customizing and leading your own army of unique Orc followers against the fortresses of Mordor. There are different ways to do this, including dominating Orcs by exploring the vast open-world and encountering them as part of Orc society, or players can acquire Orcs and other items through the Market (in-game store).
Everything in the game will not be locked behind Microtransactions though as you're free to spend no real money and unlock things normally, as such the game supports two types of currency with "Mirian" and "Gold". The latter just gives players an easier path to unlocking various types of Chests within the game.
There will be two types of Chest that players can unlock, with the Loot and War Chests. Loot Chests will contain either Weapons or Armor which can be used to upgrade Talion's abilities. The Loot Chests can also contain XP boosts to level him up faster. War Chests will give random Orc followers, with some being rarer than others and can be used towards building a powerful army. The War Chests also contain Training Orders to level the Orc followers up further.
Mirian can be obtained from various in-game activities such as:
- Defeating Treasure Orcs
- Destroying Gear for Mirian
- Destroying Orc followers for Gear (which can be destroyed for Mirian)
- Finding Mirian stashes throughout the game
Gold can be obtained by purchasing it for real life money, though you will still get a small amount from completing certain milestones. Players are able to use Gold to buy higher level Loot Chests, War Chests, Boosts and Bundles of content.
Additionally brand new footage from the game was revealed by GameSpot in which our hero Talion works with the mysterious assassin known as the Blade of Galadriel, but who is she and what is her motivation?
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is available on October 10th, you can pre-order the game today and get bonuses!
