Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition announced – a comprehensive update with plenty more content
Total War: Shogun 2 is set to be released as a new Complete Edition on October 13th for PC, bundling almost all the DLC for this strategy classic with revamped graphics, new voice acting and additional playable factions.
Anyone wishing to fall in love with feudal Japan all over again now has the ultimate opportunity to do so. The original Total War: Shogun 2 made its PC debut on March 15th 2011 and is still regarded as one of the strongest instalments in the series – turn-based empire management meets spectacular real-time battles, in which, as a daimyo, you command your forces over mountains, through forests and across open battlefields. Take on the role of a clan leader who aims to unite the whole of Japan through diplomacy, economics and brute force, and rise to become the Shogun. On October 13th 2026, the new edition – Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition – will be released. And it does things quite differently.
What’s included in TW: Shogun 2 Complete Edition?
Developers MATABOO and Creative Assembly have really gone all out under the umbrella of publisher SEGA. As well as the main game, the two major expansions, Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai, are also included in the new version. Plus:
- Revamped lighting, shadows and textures
- UI scaling for 1440p and 4K
- Modernised controls
- Full Japanese and Chinese voice-overs, including text localisation
- Over 50 new playable factions
- Integrated mod support via Mod.io
- 64-bit conversion
- Mods now available exclusively via Mod.io
Important for anyone keen to get stuck into modding: due to the new Mod.io integration, old mods for the original game will not run automatically in the Complete Edition. So if you’re keen on specific community content, you’ll have to wait for the corresponding re-releases.
With this scope, the Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition is likely to appeal to both series veterans and strategy newcomers who have so far steered clear of the Japanese feudal era. Available soon on Gamesplanet.
