Gamescom 2017 - Age of Empires IV Announced, remastered versions of previous entries also in the works

Relic Entertainment will be bringing to life a new entry in the real time strategy series Age of Empires as Age of Empires IV is announced. Remastered versions of Age of Empires 2 and 3 also in the works.

During Gamescom, Microsoft announced they would be releasing a brand new Age of Empire on PC, as Age of Empires 4 is being created by the RTS team behind Dawn of War - Relic Entertainment! This new entry in the series doesn't have a release date as yet, nor many concrete details but news that it's coming should be enough to satisfy many fans! We do see Native Americans, British Redcoats, Roman legionnaires, Japanese samurai, and others factions teased in the short trailer though, which may or may not be present in the final game.

Relic Entertainment had this to say on their blog regarding the upcoming title:

"We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the legacy. We can’t wait to tap into our strengths as a studio to fuse historical context with deep strategic gameplay, and to bring this franchise back to the forefront of gaming and into the hands of its beloved community."

In addition, to celebrate the release of the upcoming Age of Empires Remastered Definitive Edition a new trailer has arrived from Gamescom to showcase the title off. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of franchise, and the Definitive Edition will include new features such as:

  • Attack Move
  • 250-300 population cap
  • Rally Points Basic
  • Rally Points Contextual (Intelligent Villagers)
  • Grid default key layout
  • Select Idle Military
  • Select Idle Villagers
  • Unit queueing
  • Right-click mouse scroll
  • And MORE!

Age of Empires Remastered is coming to PC on October 19th, but you don't have to wait that long as you can signup for a chance to play in the insider Beta starting today! Simply head over to the Age of Empires Site and register to be eligible! News has also emerged that both Age of Empires 2, and Age of Empires 3 will be receiving Definitive Editions as well in the future.
