Game Director of Onimusha 2 introduces ‘one-hit kills’ of Hell mode

It's high time for a remaster of the legendary Onimusha 2. Fortunately, the new edition is now coming in May. With some special features that didn't exist before. Game Director Motohide Eshiro talks about it.

And once again we're travelling to feudal Japan: At this year's Future Games Show, Capcom's Game Director Motohide Eshiro spoke about his new work Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, the remake of the 2002 classic. Who else but him: Eshiro was responsible for the original as a game designer ages ago. The new version of Onimusha 2 with modernised graphics, comfort improvements, optimised controls and some new content will be available for PC on May 23rd 2025.

In an interview, Motohide Eshiro talks about the appeal of the sword fights in Onimusha 2, especially the critical attacks, and doesn't miss the opportunity to mention the remaster's new ‘Hellish’ mode. It has a lot to offer: anyone who plays the Onimusha 2 remaster in this mode dies after just one hit from the opponent. You are probably familiar with so-called ‘no-hit runs’, which are often carried out in games by FromSoftware (Dark Souls, Elden Ring) under great agony. Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny presents you with such a blatant challenge via the options menu. Who dares?

Onimusha 2 has a long history among the classic Capcom samurai action titles. The original has been celebrated not only for its intense battles, but also for its storyline. Historical figures are integrated into a supernatural setting and you face a number of demons as a heroic swordsman.

New features in Onimusha 2 Remaster

In addition to the aforementioned graphical and gameplay improvements, Capcom's remastered version of Onimusha 2 will also offer the following content:

• New Gallery mode where you can view over 100 sketches by the game's character designer, Keita Amemiya.
• New digital soundtrack selection with all 43 tracks from the original soundtrack of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny.
• Hell mode difficulty (game over after taking one strike).
• The Man in Black, Team Oni, and Puzzle Phantom Realm mini games will be available to play at the very beginning.
• Auto-save feature and easy weapon switch for improved playability.
