Overwatch: The Summer Games return, featuring Lúcioball and more

Blizard brings back the Summer Games event for their multiplayer FPS Overwatch next week. Lúcioball leads the way and allows players to get competitive for new rewards.

Last year saw the release of Overwatch, and shortly after release came the Summer Games which added new themed skins as well as the popular footie mini game Lúcioball - in which players who play as Lúcio in arenas (much like Rocket League) in 3v3 matches.

Lúcioball will once again be available and this time the action heats up in a new Sydney Arena, as well as last year's Rio Arena. Unlike last year however some changes have been added, such as not being able to boop an enemy goal keeper and the ultimate for Lúcio has been redesigned. Instead of pulling the ball towards him the ultimate will now make him move faster and jump higher. The action heats up as this year will mark the start of the compeitive Lúcioball, and players who engage in the new mode will be able to unlock sprays by competing (and placing). You don't have to worry as the regular Lúcioball is still there for players who do not want to compete.

Players who were not around for the 2016 Summer Games can still get last year's skins, which have been lowered in costs. For example if you wanted a Summer Games skin that cost 3000 credits last year it will cost 1000 this year, allowing fans to grab something they may have missed earlier.

Leading the pack is Junkrat who will receive a new legendary skin for the crazy hero. Mercy is also getting a brand new legendary skin, Windowmaker and McCree fans can also have something to look forward to and fans will be "blown away" with the rewards.

Blizzard also talked a little more about the changes to drops. We've already seen loot boxes get a slight change to lower the rate at which players would get duplicates, but the Summer Games 2017 will be the first event that will showcase off the changes and should allow players to get the skins they want easier.

Take a look at the full developer update below as Jeff Kaplan (from the Overwatch team!) explains a little about the changes which will be coming this year to the Summer Games, as well as a teaser of what's new this year.

Also in case you missed it, Doomfist has made his appearance in the game and the rocket powered hero is now playable for everyone.

Overwatch Summer Games begins on August 8th, prepare for Lúcioball Round 2!
