On g2play, there are information that playing and activating is restricted in Japan as follows.

This is a restricted product and it CANNOT be activated nor played in Japan.

Could someone confirm above news is also true or not for the steam key from GamesPLanet?

I'm just planning to buy this from GamesPlanet, so I'm wondering what is true.

Have now tried making a purchase from Japan. Registered to Steam as RESIDENT EVIL 7. Which means there is no block preventing activation for customers in Japan. Downloaded without a problem and launched also with no problem. So yes, keys sold here can be activated and played in Japan.

See, we were telling the truth - no region locks! :)

Enjoy the game!

Yep. Thanks. Sorry if I was a bit skeptical. Too many experiences in that past where things didn't work -- even when publishers thought they should! Will now enjoy playing this in the morning =)

If there would ever be a region issue or something like that we'd be happy to refund it.

It really helped me.

No idea what they are selling but be sure our keys do work everywhere without any restrictions. I've checked the package right now – no flags added, no restrictions, just pure playing fun for everybody!

Also… Unlike other stores, we refund everybody who might be trapped with regional restrictions. So no risk at all with us (whereas this refund will not be needed for RE7).

Thanks for the reply. Can I just confirm what would happen in the following situation?

Say a game is purchased from here and activates on Steam perfectly fine in Japan, but remains unplayable because it was never "released" on Steam's end in the region, would a refund be possible?

This situation has happened several times in the past with games on Steam, the last time it happened to me it was even with a game purchased directly through Steam. It took several months to finally get someone at Steam to even acknowledge there was problem. Japan is just one of those "special" regions that often gets treated badly by Steam, so some assurance that assistance is available would help.

I truly hope that RE7 is 100% fine to purchase and play though, so this question is more a what if for another game down the line.

Thanks

When the game draws unplayable for you, we'd issue a refund yes. Rest assured this won't take months with us.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm going to try buying this later tonight and will post here how it works out.

I too would like to see if Gamesplanet can clear this up, perhaps by asking their Capcom representative. Looking at Steam database entries, I get the impression that this could be unplayable in Japan.

The following flags are set:
ReleaseStateOverride released
ReleaseStateOverrideCountries JP
releasestateoverrideinverse Yes

The first two flags mean that the normal release state has been superceded for Japan. And has been set to "Released" for Japan. However, the third flag reverses this setting. Meaning that it is actually "Unreleased" for Japan.

The problem is, the Steam database cannot distinguish between the specific regional versions. That is, it also shows the same flags when viewing the information via the Japanese version of the game.

If this can be cleared up, I'll happily buy. But I don't want to risk activating a key that is stuck in a permanent unreleased state (making it difficult to get a refund).
